I am a passionate student of the human condition. I came to therapy after careers as a musician and music educator, a nonprofit executive, and an author—in all of these endeavors I have been fascinated by how we experience the flow of our life, how we can join this flow in a deep and joyful way, and how to harness it to make the world a better place.
We all possess the wisdom we need to create the life we want and deserve. The trick is to get out of our own way, give space for ourselves to heal, and really listen for our own wisdom. Sometimes we need a little help. Therapy offers a place of safety and a relationship based in deep compassion to do this vital work.
I walk with individuals wishing to delve into their own reserves of wisdom. I work with couples (of all stages of relationship, all sexual orientations and gender identities) struggling to find a deeper and more secure connection together. My overall approach is person-centered and focusing-oriented. With couples, I employ Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT). I also offer Guided Focusing Sessions, which is not therapy but a method to connect with the body’s wisdom.
I hold an LMHC (License in Mental Health Counseling) in the State of Washington, and an MA in Psychology from Antioch University, Seattle. I have a BA from Yale and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Washington. I expect to be certified as a Focusing-Oriented Therapist and Focusing Trainer by The International Focusing Institute sometime in 2018. I have practiced Zen since 1994.
