Marius Lina, MA, LMHCA

I help individuals, couples and families struggling with life challenges.

My Work

A lot of my clinical work focuses on supporting individuals with issues relating to anxiety and trauma. Each person I work with has their own unique stories and diverse life experiences and challenges. While these can never be generalized or “boxed”, some of the common clinical areas that I treat include: anxiety and phobias, stress and burnout, mood imbalances, relational challenges, spirituality/existential issues, image and identity issues, life transitions, and career development.

I advocate for my clients’ welfare and well-being. I strive to understand my clients as they most want to be truly understood. I work hard to support and encourage my clients as needed, cultivating a hopeful space where they may feel that it is possible to create (and recreate) their stories in ways that feel most fitting at that time.

I also integrate my humanistic, existential, psychodynamic approaches to therapy with my training in a number of evidence-based treatments, including Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), as well as mindfulness-based stress reduction and DBT techniques and skills. I have found this to be a natural integration to build an effective, integrated clinical practice based on a healing relational presence.

My Belief

I believe we always and already have everything we need to be whole and our truest self. This light is evidenced by our innocence as a child. Often lost or separated from this early, for most of us our life mission (conscious or not) has been to reconnect, reconfigure and embody that self in the context of the present time. I believe that our ability to respond, learn, and grow in this way also gives us meaning, and that part of our human-ness is that we all share this ability to search for meaning and an authentic, balanced existence where we can love, as well as feel loved and accepted. I believe we are all doing the best we can—given the situation, know-how, and resources we have available to us at each given time, so I do not believe in shame and blame, but believe in our freedom to respond: response-ability from one moment and into the next.

My Background

I am a licensed mental health counselor associate (LMHCA) and hold a master’s degree in psychology (with a focus in existential psychology) from Seattle University. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in commerce from New Zealand, as well as post-baccalaureate diplomas in both Health Sciences (majoring in Psychology, Biology, and Chemistry) and Sport & Exercise Science.

Prior to graduate school I worked for twelve years as an outdoor educator, and before that I wandered the world. I was immersed in outdoor education programming with teenagers and young adults from intersecting cultural identities in New Zealand. The therapeutic and restorative benefits of maintaining ties to culture, community, and nature were intertwined within outdoor education philosophy. Noticing this connection to healing spawned my interest in pursuing training in clinical counseling and therapy with a focus on holistic individual healing and growth.

My Self

A lot of my own stories and meanings that have shaped and healed me are rooted in the earth, in nature, and connected to water. I love living in the PNW and spend time adventuring in the mountains and ocean as a way to restore. This sustains my life’s work—not only as a therapist—but also a life-long adventurer, traveler, learner, dog-dad, nature-lover, neighbor, stranger, family member and friend!
