I work with adults, teens, couples, and parents struggling with life challenges.
My Work
My therapeutic training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy- an approach that considers past experiences when exploring current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. However, research shows that the relationship between the therapist and the client is more important than their therapeutic orientation. Knowing this, my initial focus is building trust and empathy, fostering the relationship between myself and my client. As we get to know each other, I tailor my approach to the needs of the individual. My goal is to allow my clients to practice being their authentic selves in the presence of an accepting, non-judgmental witness, and to be a safe container for thoughts and emotions that may have been rejected in past relationships.
My Belief
Suffering is part of the human experience. I believe recognizing and accepting pain as part of life can bring immense relief, allowing us to live with openness and curiosity. We all have a shadow side that needs love, attention, and ultimately acceptance. I desire to help my clients learn to not only tolerate their pain, shadow, and life challenges, but also recognize how these shape them, teach them, and lead them to grow.
My Background
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate with an MA in counseling psychology from The Seattle School of Psychology. A significant portion of my education challenged me to do my own intensive therapeutic work. This is what allows me to understand and empathize with the hard work I ask of my clients. Recently I worked in a partial hospitalization setting for those struggling primarily with eating disorders but also OCD, depression, and anxiety. I have extensive personal experience working with an attachment-based therapist. I formerly taught weekly classes at a small K-8 cooperative school, and currently work part-time as a fitness coach.
My Self
I am a partner, mother, friend, sister and daughter. These relationships are my highest priority. Through them, I have learned to love, change, and grow. I understand the joys and difficulties that come with partnership, parenting, adoption, and blended families. Outside of work, you’re likely to see me walking with headphones on, listening to podcasts and memoirs. I’m almost always up for a spontaneous outdoor adventure, as long as it ends by 7 pm.
